It’s a known fact that individuals who continue to learn and keep their skills relevant make more money in their careers and receive raises more often. Also, by continually educating yourself you become more credible in your niche field and as a person. Although continued education can be expensive which is why I put together a list of websites that offer FREE online classes!
1. EdX
EdX has many resources and many different classes and topics from many different universities. EdX courses seem a little more difficult than Coursera’s. At edX you can also choose to take a class with a “Certificate Type” or a class with a “Leisure Learning”. Certificate type and leisure learning are both the same type of material although in order to get the certificate you have to complete the assignments by specific due dates. EdX is own by a joint partnership between Harvard University and The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to offer free online classes.
2. Coursera
Coursera is another great website to find online courses to take from a variety of great universities. Coursera is a lot like edX, they have hundreds of courses to choose from and are free for anyone to take. At Coursera you can complete assignments on your own schedule and connect with other peers who are taking the same course as you.
3. MIT OpenCourseWare
MIT OpenCourseWare offers all of MIT’s course content online in one database for anyone to look at. The website currently has materials from 2,150 courses! These materials include lecture notes, videos from actual MIT lectures, and exams. MIT began MIT OpenCourseWare back in October of 2002 as a project to provide educational materials to anyone.
4. The Open University
The Open University promotes educational opportunities by providing high-quality educational content to anyone with ambition. Most of their undergraduate courses have no prerequisite requirements. They have what’s called “access modules” to help give students a preview of what it’s like to study with the Open University.
5. OpenCourseWare (OCW) Consortium
The OpenCourseWare Consortium is a huge community of hundreds of higher education institutions dedicated to helping global education. The website offers open sharing of practices, resources, and tools from universities and institutions from around the world. The courses are accessible to anyone and their courses often offer evaluation and planning tools.
