In this post I’ll explain exactly how Etsy works for sellers.
Etsy is an online marketplace that allows individuals and businesses to sell handmade, vintage, and unique items, as well as craft supplies.
Here’s an overview of how Etsy works for sellers
- To start selling on Etsy, individuals or businesses must first create an account and open a shop. This is a simple process that involves providing basic information such as a valid email address and a preferred shop name.
- Once a shop is open, sellers can start listing their items for sale. Each listing includes a title, description, photos, price, and shipping details. The listing fee is $0.20 per item.
- Sellers can list handmade, vintage, or unique items, as well as craft supplies. There are some limitations on what can be sold on Etsy, such as items that are mass-produced or prohibited by Etsy’s policies.
- When a buyer finds an item they want to purchase, they add it to their cart and proceed to checkout. The seller receives notification of the sale, and the payment is processed.
- After receiving payment, the seller is responsible for packaging and shipping the item to the buyer within the timeframe specified in the listing.
- Once the buyer receives the item and is satisfied, they can leave a review for the seller.
- Etsy takes a small commission on each sale, typically around 5% to 6%, and the seller receives the remaining payment minus the transaction fees.
Selling on Etsy can be a great way for individuals and businesses to reach a global audience and sell their unique and handmade items. It’s also a great way to start a business and test the market for your products. Sellers can also take advantage of various features such as advertising options, analytics and shipping labels through Etsy.
