When we think of a word that describes a great leader, some words that come to mind might be:

  • Charismatic
  • Driven
  • Influential
  • Passionate
  • Loyal
  • Integrity
  • Visionary
  • Servant

These are terms that describe what most of us would want in a leader. We all know the traits a leader should have but rarely apply them to ourselves. The same things we want from a leader are the same things the people you’re leading want from you.

Some of these qualities come naturally to us and others we must acquire over time. In order to grow your business and grow as a person, you should build on these qualities every day.

Leaders Should Also Be Entrepreneurs

When you think of words that describe an entrepreneur, some words that come to mind might be:

  • Risk Taker
  • Motivated
  • Learner
  • Courageous
  • Determined
  • Visionary
  • Creative
  • Driven

To really grow and enhance your business you should have a combination of both leadership and entrepreneurship qualities. You should have the inspiration of a leader but also the push and drive of an entrepreneur.

A good leader assumes responsibilities for problems and errors made. If your company is having problems, it’s not because of your employees or the economy, it’s because of you. This is good news — since you’re the problem, you’re also the solution. You can change and grow as a person.

No One Man Should Have All That Power (But You Do)

Good leaders understand they hold a lot of power, but they rarely use it. When you have the power to fire an employee, you essentially have power over their lives. Leaders also have the power to see an employee’s full potential and help awaken that potential inside that employee.

Your job as a leader is to raise your team member’s spirits and make each team member feel like they have a purpose.

Great Leaders Are Servant Leaders

To be a truly great leader you need to have a servant mentality. You can serve your team by mentoring and teaching, by creating a rewarding work environment, and by practicing patients with team members.

Be Passionate

In order to lead, you should have passion for what it is you’re leading. Without passion, you cannot lead. You need to have passion in order to spark passion into your followers and the organization.

Passion increases productivity and excellence. Those who are passionate care more about the customer and the customer’s needs. Passion also causes leaders, team members, and customers to be more forgiving of one another.
